After 31st March 2024, any classic Teams users who haven't updated to the new Teams app will be automatically updated.
The new Teams app has been completely overhauled with improved performance and enhanced reliability, security, and IT management.
The result is a faster, simpler, smarter, and more flexible app that is up to two times faster while using 50% less memory.
To get started using the new Teams, flip the toggle next to ‘Try the new Teams’ in the upper-left corner of the classic Teams app. And then click ‘get it now’ on the pop-up. Teams will reboot and the new version will open up.
The new Teams app uses less of your computer's CPU (Central Processing Unit). This puts less pressure on the computer and lets it work more efficiently.
There’s a new Copilot experience within Teams chat, with the app pinned to the top of your screen. It promises improved, more relevant prompts, like referencing your meetings or files.
You can also keep your chat view tidy by removing items from your activity feed and choosing your notification settings.
Use Intelligent recap in Copilot to summarise meetings. Timeline markers help you to browse the content more easily.
The beauty of Teams is working more cohesively. The new Teams allows you to get an overview of your colleague’s online status, work location and when their next available calendar slot is in Outlook.
You can now easily forward a message in chat without fiddly copy and pasting. Just hover over a message, select more options – forward – and then who you want it to go to.
Online meetings can be taken to a whole new level with Mesh. You can have meetings in an immersive 3D space to make it feel like a face-to-face meeting.
There’s also a new layout in ‘Together’ mode. It gives all participants a common background, with them sitting side by side on the horizontal plane. The idea is to make you feel more connected with fellow participants.
