There has been an exciting announcement from Microsoft this month. Using the power of next generation AI capabilities, they have launched Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Things have certainly progressed a long way since “Clippy” the helpful paperclip!

What is Copilot?

Copilot uses powerful AI and LLMs (large language models) with data from your Microsoft apps so it can become your copilot – helping you to complete a multitude of tasks and save you time.

It is a powerful tool to improve productivity, completing those time zapping tasks to give you more space to do the things only humans can do – be creative, connect with your clients, think, dream and find happiness in your role!

“Today marks the next major step in the evolution of how we interact with computing, which will fundamentally change the way we work and unlock a new wave of productivity growth,” said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, Microsoft. “With our new copilot for work, we’re giving people more agency and making technology more accessible through the most universal interface — natural language.”

How do you access it?

Copilot will be embedded in Microsoft 365’s apps, such as Word, Outlook and Excel. It will also be available through the all-new ‘Business Chat.’ You will be able to give it language prompts to create reports, presentations, emails, write meeting summaries, analyse data and make content for communications.

Have you ever started a word document and stared at the blank screen willing some inspiration to hit you? Copilot will help you jump straight in by pulling together a first draft which can act as your starting point. It won’t be as written as well as you can write it, but you’ll save so much time by having the bones of the work there for you to add to.

The same can be said in PowerPoint and Excel – with just a prompt Copilot can create a stunning presentation or it can analyse trends and data from a spreadsheet.

It works with Outlook too – whether you want a reply drafted or a long email thread summarised. Even a meeting in Teams can be summarised for anyone who missed it (or who wasn’t paying attention!)

Copilot can also help you unlock thousands of capabilities amongst its Microsoft apps, of which, you’re probably only using a handful.

There is so much to cover with this exciting new launch – we’ll cover more in a follow up blog soon.

For now, Microsoft has said the new features will be rolled out to a limited number of customers initially, so watch this space!
